“Love is a lot like dancing; you just surrender to the music”

Hello Everyone and welcome to another month of my enlightening, entertaining and informative ramblings :)  Hope everyone is doing well and had a Happy Valentine’s Day filled with lots of love.   I know I was feeling the love with our Spread the Love promotion.  I always love to have each one of you in class and I so much love it when you bring your friends.  So, thank you all for bringing your friends and sharing the fun that we have in class.   Like our quote tells us this month, when you are dancing you just have to let go of everything, forget about counting, forget about how you look or who’s watching and just feel the music.  Or as Lady Gaga would say, “Just Dance.  It’s gonna be okay.  Just Dance.”  Hopefully you will always “just dance” and have fun with the music, and everything else will be icing on the cake.

In this newsletter, I will reveal the winner of the Spread the Love Drawing.  Also in this newsletter are lots of other fun tidbits, including the information about the QCDQ March Madness Sweet 16 Challenge.  I hope you will take the time to peruse through and see what is going on in QCDQ and better yet I hope you will get motivated to keep taking your fun and dancing seriously.

Spread the Love!!!  Many of you spread the love to your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers and we had fun jammin’ with them.  If your friend bought a class card, your name was entered in a drawing for FREE classes.  Of these, we randomly picked 2 winners and it just so happens that they are…… Vivian Perlman and Kelly Kimura!!! Vivian is a Gastonia participant and she introduced Tonnette Byrd to our family.  Kelly Kimura is a Charlotte participant and is Sara’s helper on Friday.  She introduced her friend Jane Ritz to our family!  If you see Vivian or Kelly, tell them CONGRATULATIONS.  They each won a 5 class card that they can pick up at any class.

March Madness Sweet 16 Challenge Are you ready to play?  Hopefully, you received my email earlier about the most fabulous basketball-inspired promotion for March.  Like Megan Paul said, “This is my kind of game!”.  I totally agree.  (While I enjoy watching basketball, I was the one on the basketball team in the 5th grade who ran up the basketball court clutching the basketball, oblivious to the referees whistle on the call of walking. )  So, that being said, this is my kind of game too!  The challenge in a nutshell is this:  When you enter the Sweet 16 Challenge as a player with  your entry fee of $55, you can attend unlimited classes in the month of March and  you get a fabulous t-shirt.  Complete the challenge by attending any 16 classes in the month of March, and you have the chance to win fabulous prizes (like FREE classes of course).  For more information on the March Madness Sweet 16 Challenge, click here.

Bad news is….No Hit It class this Saturday, Feb. 21  Major Bummer. I know.  It turns out they have a doctors conference that will be taking place in the room all day on Saturday at Armstrong Athletic Club.  Lisa will miss everyone, but hopefully you’ll see her on the 28th! Please spread the word.

Good news is...DanceOut! Master Class with Angie is on for this Saturday, Feb. 21 at 9 AM.  To kick off the instructor workshop that I will be leading, there will be a DanceOut! Master class from 9-10 AM with yours truly.  Come and get in an early morning Jam at Tom Sykes Recreation Center.  This 1 hour class is open to anyone who is interested– not just instructors who are going to be in the training.  We will be up in the upstairs dance room; Follow the signs.  Regular drop-in rates or class card punching applies.  By the way, if you are interested in taking the instructor workshop it is not too late to register for the full day workshop.  Click here for more details.

Next QCDQ party event!!!  It’s been almost a year since our party last April at the ARC, so we are long overdue for a fabulous 2 hour jamming event.  In thinking about our next party, I got to thinking… Wouldn’t it be fabulous to do a class in a public place with a real dance floor to make for a real night out on the town?  Like perhaps somewhere  in Uptown Charlotte?  Of course, water will be available, but possibly other beverages as well for anyone over 21 that might be especially thirsty.  We could all go dressed up for a night out, and then jam to all of our favorite songs!  Wouldn’t that be so fabulous?   More details to come but keep your calendars open for the last weekend in March.  I’m soooooo excited!!

We’re on Facebook!!  Thanks to Moody (who used her sick day very wisely), QCDQ now has a group on Facebook.   If you are a member of Facebook, you better get your heinie over to our group page and join.  If you are not a member of Facebook, you can still view the group page, but you won’t be able to join.  Either way, click here to go to the page!  Hopefully, you will use this as a way to interact with each other and learn more about each other’s interests etc!  Plus, you can post stuff on here, like song suggestions or give shout outs to instructors for especially fabulous classes.  See pictures of each other when not in our workout clothes.  The possibilities are numerous!

Health Symposium at Gaston Memorial on Feb. 28th  This health symposium is free and is being offered as a service to the community by The Links Piedmont Chapter.  It will be taking place from 9-11  in the Atrium of Gaston Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 28th.  Queen City Dancing Queen was invited to provide a couple demo Zumba classes for the kids and adolescents.  The classes are geared towards the youth, as the symposium’s theme is “Combating Childhood Obesity”.  One demo class will be for the age group 4-12, and the other will be for adolescents 13-18.  In addition to my demo classes there will be seminars for the parents on topics such as nutrition and exercise.   Again, the symposium is free, but you must register in advance.  If you are interested in attending the symposium and/or bringing your kids to participate in the demo classes, please contact Dr. Shawya Gore by email.

QCDQ Kid policy  Speaking of kids, many of you know that I love having kids in class.  I think it’s such a great thing if the kids can be involved in the class and have fun while exercising.  However, even if they are too shy, too young, and/or not interested enough to participate, you are still setting great example for the kids by showing them that exercise is important.  I’d like to thank you for making sure that your kids are either participating by your side, or sitting quietly off to the side near you while you dance.   Kids who are 10 or younger can take the class for free with a participating adult.  Kids older than that should pay for the classes, but remember they can use your class card.  Finally, all participating kids no matter what age should have a separate participation form that the participating adult should fill out and sign.

Got an infant? Wrap that baby up!  In case you weren’t there to see it yourself, I brought Dahlia to DanceOut! class a couple Fridays ago, put her in my wrap and did a modified version of the class with her.  She loved it so much that she fell asleep within 10 minutes.  Let me explain... The wrap is a piece of cotton (like t-shirt material) about 20 inches wide and 5-7 yds long.  I got the idea from a website called MetroMama, but their wraps were kind of expensive, so I went to a fabric store and made my own wraps– no sewing required– for a much lower cost.   Dahlia loves to be all wrapped up and close to me and then I can be free to walk around, dance, do laundry, whatever!  In fact, I choreographed the song “Right Round” with Dahlia in the wrap.  Plus it is great exercise for the legs when you get to squatting to pick things up off the floor.  Once your baby is used to the wrap, you might even want to bring him/her to class like I did!!! To see a demo of what I’m talking about, click here.

Randy Jackson presents: America’s Best Dance Crew on MTV comes on Thursday nights at 10:00 pm.  I’m getting lots of good choreography and song ideas from the show.  My favorite group right now is the Beat Freaks.   You should check it out!!

New QCDQ shirts.  The shirts are in so make sure you come to class to pick up your order.  I love the new Jam Crew Green shirts!!!  They look fabulous.   I do have ONE large pink Jam Crew Tank if anyone is interested in joining the Jam Crew.  For more information on the Jam Crew, click here.  Also, I believe I am still missing the Jam Crew applications for Nicole, Minnie, Donna and Kristen.  Click here to view/print application.

QCDQ Small Business Highlight  We’re a small business, you have small businesses.  Let’s help each other get through these tough economic times.  For example, I know that Tara Pellegrino that comes to Gina’s class on Thursday owns a pet grooming shop in Belmont that offers “Pawdicures” (isn’t that ridiculously cute?).  Long time Gastonia participant Carrie Bumgarner owns the UPS stores at the Bilo shopping center and Acres Shopping center in Gastonia, where you can take care of all your shipping needs, AND, as I recently found out, all of your copying needs as well.  I’d like to start highlighting QCDQ small businesses/self-employed individuals in my tidbits newsletters.  If you have a small business or are self-employed in some way that would benefit by a little extra exposure, then send me an email with the following information:  your name, your business name, your business contact info, description of your services, what QCDQ class(es) you frequent the most.

And finally…..The only way fun way to exercise on a treadmill has been revealed  If your treadmill that you purchased is currently the drying rack for your finest sweaters, you might want to clear it off for these exercises, or on second thought maybe not…..  Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this video… I hope you will too.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pv5zWaTEVkI

Thank you to everyone for your taking the time to see what was going on in the QCDQ royal family.  Hope you are all going to be coming to class very frequently especially now with the March Madness!!!!  Please continue spreading the love with your friends (remember they can always tag along with you on your class card) and let’s keep our classes rockin’!!!!!

I loooooooove you all! Big smooches!!
