“Better late than never, and early is even better” Anonymous

Hello and welcome to another edition of Angie’s Tidbits!  I sincerely hope life is treating all of you well and that you are finding joy in the things that make life worth living.  I am doing well, now 9 months pregnant and happy to say that I am very healthy, happy and excited for the arrival of Dahlia Valentina.  I have a big big belly and while this big big belly has made me have to reduce my jamming level, I have been fortunate to have you the participants, along with my Jam Crew members and my instructor team helping me to keep classes rockin’.  This month there are a number of big things going on, so I hope you will take the time to check these out in this newsletter.  Thank you for all you do and thank you for being such a wonderful part of the QCDQ family!

“Better late than never, and early is even better”: I have missed those of you that have not been able to come to class.  Just in the past week or so I’ve had a few “long time no see-ers” reappear in class and we were so happy to have them back. Some of you have told me that you’ve been very busy and some of you have confessed that you’ve just been “lazy”. Either way, I want you to know that it is never too late to come back to class. If you have temporarily strayed from class, we so want you back!

And now, let’s talk about being early.  I’d love to help you get a jumpstart on your fitness for the next year.  We all set goals for ourselves and we like to start these goals at logical times.  For example, “Starting next year, I am going to seriously start exercising and eating right”.  Well, I’d like to encourage you to consider that the most logical time to start on a goal is NOW!  Yes, the holidays are coming up, but there is no better time to exercise than during the holidays, a time when we all need to de-stress and burn off extra calories to make up for all the goodies we eat!  So, be early and start now on your fitness goals.

Anyway, whether you are “early”, “late” or “right on schedule”, there’s never a better time to fit in time to exercise than NOW!

Introducing my Fabulous Instructor Team:   By now, most of you know my fabulous instructor team that has been helping me to keep the classes jammin’ especially since I’ve gotten farther into my pregnancy.  They are: Lisa, Gina, Sara and Demetria. Each of these ladies has been coming to my classes for at least a year and has been in instructor training with me for several months.  Now this fabulous instructor team will be on their own as they take over my existing classes when I am on maternity leave and as they take on classes for next year to expand the Queen City Dancing Queen class schedule to give you more variety of locations and times.  Click here to read more about each of these instructors.   If you are interested in training to be an instructor, read this to see if you are ready and email me if you have any questions.

Holiday Sessions beginning on 11/17/08: Okay we all know that I’m going to be having this baby soon.  Believe it or not, my actual due date is November 30, but they say that you can go a couple weeks early or a couple weeks late.  Who knows?  But the fact of the matter is, I want you all to have classes while I am out on maternity leave and I want to be prepared in case she comes early.  Luckily, my fabulous instructor team will be able to take over my existing classes for what I will call the “Holiday Sessions”.  The Holiday Sessions will officially begin the week of 11/17/08 and will continue through the first week of January.  If you are interested in continuing to take classes through the holidays, please pre-register in class or online by 11/15/08.  You can register for the full session or for a partial session as your schedule best permits.  Either way, the pre-registration is important for 2 reasons: (1) In order for the Holiday Sessions to take place, I have to make sure that there are enough people registered and (2) Monetary transactions will not be possible during class after 11/15/08.  If enough people haven’t pre-registered for the Holiday Session, then the session at that location will be subject to cancellation (in which case you would get your $ back).  Please click here to read more about the Holiday Sessions, see pricing and to register.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Attention Current Class Package Holders!!:  If you have classes left on your class package, you are encouraged to continue using them until 11/15/08 no matter how long ago you bought them… Remember, better late than never!  I really want you to use up your classes before the end of the year because beginning in the new year I will have a new system for class packages and all classes leftover will expire.  If you are unsure of how many classes you have leftover, please send me an email. Here are 3 ways that you can make sure your classes are used up before the new year.

Apply any leftover classes to pay for your Holiday Sessions.  First, register for any of the Holiday Sessions by 11/15/08.  Then, if by 11/15/08 you still have classes left on your package, you will be rebated $5/class leftover towards whatever you paid for the Holiday Session (not to exceed the total cost of what you paid for the Holiday Session).

Bring friends to class and let them use your classes from your class package.  Or, give your remaining classes to a friend or family member.  Just let me know.

Donate your classes to Queen City Dancing Queen and I will make sure that they go towards someone who would like to attend classes but can’t because of financial reasons.

$5 Drop-ins at all locations till 11/15/08Drop-ins are still available at all locations for only $5!  Even though I am not selling any more packages, I still wanted to be able to give you the opportunity to take my classes for the same low price as you would have paid with the packages.  I hope to see you soon to take advantage of this offer!

Current Dance Fanatic/Jam Crew Cards being phased out: If you are currently attending 2 classes or more/week then you can still get a Dance Fanatic/Jam Crew card until 11/15/08.  From then on out, no more cards will be given out until the New Year.  As mentioned earlier, in the New Year we will be moving to a new system for class packages and this will also include changes to the current Dance Fanatic/Jam Crew reward card program.  I won’t get into details yet, but essentially the class packages and the Dance Fanatic/Jam Crew cards will become one.  It will be much easier that way for you and me to track your classes.  Even though new cards won’t be given out after the 15th, you can continue to get your card punched and turn them in for free classes until the new system takes effect.

Other links of interestHere’s some cool stuff worth checking out...

Samba de Amigo: One of our class regulars and Jam Crew members, Arleen S, was telling me about a game for her Wii that she likes to play.  It seems to me to be a lot like a Zumba in a video game format.  The name of the game is Samba de Amigo and it looks like it would be a fabulous Christmas gift idea.  She sent me this link to check it out… It looks like fun…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRLUFx6lCSg&feature=related

Keeping Physical Education in Schools:  Chrystal D sent this to me. Richard Simmons has been a huge advocate for keeping physical education in schools, and I agree with him.  Physical fitness is a vital part of a child’s overall well-being (although I could do without Dodgeball).  If you would like to send a quick letter to your congress about this, here’s a handy letter from Richard Simmons’ Fit Kids webpage: http://www.richardsimmons.com/j15/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=249&Itemid=99999

Fascinating Flamenco Dancing: Katie B (one of my regulars till she went away to grad school) sent me a link to this video of a song called Boy with a Coin by Iron & Wine.  The flamenco dancing in this video is mesmerizing and I’m inspired to use the song for a cooldown.  Enjoy!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLNyVLbqdEg

Belly Pics:  For Halloween, I had some fun dressing up my big belly.  Click here to see some pics and keep clicking on the pictures to view more.

Well, my dance lovers, that is all for now.  If you have any questions about anything, please let me know!  And again, it is never too late to come back to class, too early to start coming again, or too on schedule to keep coming every week!

Besos,

Angie
