Hi! My name is Jennie Fitzpatrick. I am originally from Auburn, Maine, but moved to Charlotte at age 12. I have always loved dance. I studied ballet, tap and jazz for several years as a child. I left dancing to become a competitive gymnast. I eventually returned to dance by joining the dance team at East Mecklenburg High School. I attended UNC Charlotte where I was a member of the Gold Dusters Dance team. I then went to nursing school and stopped dancing for almost 15 years.
A friend of mine told me about Queen City Dance Out in 2009. I hesitated to try the classes but she kept urging me to go. I finally attended an Urban Shimmy class and fell in love! I had forgotten how happy dancing made me feel. It was exhilarating. I felt ALIVE. The instructors were so inspirational. I looked forward to going to every class. Eventually I mustered up enough courage to audition to become an instructor because I wanted to share that unconditional love of dance and exercise with others. I am so proud to be a part of Queen City and hope that I can provide the same inspirational instruction that I received as a participant. Read more about Jennie in her Q&A.
